The winter has finally passed and spring has swept us away so quickly with wedding season in full swing up here on the East Coast. So much growth and change has happened to me and my family these past few months and I hold on to what my dear friend Meredith says, "change is a GOOD thing!" Painful, yes, at times but only helping me get closer and closer to the purist being I can be at this stage in my life. A major life experience just happened for our family when my partner, Rich, asked me to marry him! We decided to elope on the first day of spring and whisked away to our favorite little spot in Lewes, Delaware and officially tied the knot. With only a handful of people who knew and not that many days to plan we brought it all together for what was the most magical day that our family has experienced to date. It was amazing, in the truest definition of that word, how each part of the process fell together like puzzle pieces who knew exactly what they were supposed to do and what role they were supposed to play; from finding our officiant at the grocery store (no lie-we ran into a good friend and felt the urge to share our very fresh news and what do you know she was an ordained minister), to going to the thrift store to "just to see what they have", and finding Rich an Oscar de la Renta vintage sport coat that fit like a glove. To ordering our wedding cake at 7pm the night before our nuptials and having the local baker say she would start baking as soon as we got off the phone. It probably sounds like we are little sporadic but it's funny because the "normal" part of our life is so full of planning, scheduling and organizing. But on this day and leading up to our wedding we knew we just had to follow our hearts and let the pieces fall in place.
I've been holding off on sharing this wedding of Brooke and Bob until just the right time, and now that time has come. When Brooke emailed me to ask me to document her engagement party and wedding I knew that these were not going to be an ordinary events. Similar to how our wedding pieces seemed to fall into place, the same did for them but on a much larger scale-from the local brewpub owner who allowed them to transform his brewery into the most magical, unique space for a wedding, to the bride's Mom who is such an amazing artist and designer adding all of the loving touches throughout the event, to their amazing friends who handcrafted custom tables for their unconventional reception, to the beautiful plants and flowers that came straight from the garden of their neighbors and friends. Only a few days before Christmas all of this came together for them in the best way you could've imagined and these beautiful souls had the time of their life.
